Our Philosophy
We support The Precautionary Principle, a standard begun in Germany, and adopted by the United Nations in 1992, also known as Agenda 21*.

In order to protect the environment, the precautionary approach shall be widely applied by States according to their capabilities. Where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, lack of full scientific certainty shall not be used as a reason for postponing cost-effective measures to prevent environmental degradation.

The Precautionary Principle includes risk prevention, cost effectiveness, ethical responsibilities towards maintaining the integrity of natural systems, and allows for the fallibility of human understanding. We believe it is better, whenever possible, to use natural materials that have been proven safe over many decades of use rather than use synthetic materials (including memory foam, also called viscous foam, and polyurethane foam), and any materials made from petroleum products whose long-term health effects can only be projected. We choose to only use organic, natural and sustainable materials that are healthy for people as well as the planet.

What is the difference between "organic", "natural" and "sustainable"?
Many companies use the words organic and natural to describe their materials because it is currently trendy to do so, even if the products are not 100% pure. At H3Environmental, we back the purity of our Mary Cordaro Collection bedding materials with independent testing in Germany. We are currently the only organic bedding manufacturer to do so, to maintain the high level of quality our customers demand.

Organic: indicates that the materials are grown, processed and manufactured without any synthetic chemicals, all the way to the finished product.

Natural: indicates that the materials are nature-based, but may not be processed in a 100% organic manner. If a product is labeled “natural,” it may contain only a small percentage of natural ingredients, since it is legal to include synthetic ingredients as well.

Sustainable: indicates that the materials are “renewable” or can be grown again. They also create less impact to the planet to source and process. Examples include: using wool instead of Dacron, and using natural latex instead of metal inner springs, polyurethane foam, memory (viscose) foam, or synthetic latex. Dacron, polyurethane. memory foam and synthetic latex are all made from raw materials from the petroleum industry. Besides creating a great deal of impact to the planet to source and process, petroleum products and metal are not renewable, because they come from a finite source. Sustainable materials may or may not be organic.

100% natural latex – a sustainable resource from the rubber tree.
Natural latex from the rubber tree is the core support in our organic beds, and considered by many to deliver the most luxurious and comfortable sleep experience of all bed materials on the market. Vastly superior to inner springs, latex will not sag over time due to its natural properties, making it more durable and longer-lasting, which means less landfill. When most people think of “latex” they think of the material used in surgical gloves, which is usually a blend of natural rubber latex and other synthetic materials added for durability and pliability. This is very different.

Why choose latex? – because most conventional synthetic mattresses contain Dacron and foam padding, either polyurethane foam, viscose foam or synthetic latex. Synthetics outgas chemicals called VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and SVOCs (semi-volatile organic compounds) from the core materials or outer coverings, which we believe impact your sleep and long-term health. Conventional mattresses are further treated with fire retardants such as organophosphate chemicals, including PBDEs, which have been shown in recent studies to have a cumulative effect in humans and wildlife with exposure over time. We also use a supportive latex core to avoid metal inner springs. Metal concentrates and radiates electromagnetic fields (EMFs) which can affect your sleep and overall health, as well as sag over time, creating back pain. Latex never sags, due to its natural properties.

To produce natural latex, the rubber tree’s sap, or “serum” is tapped from the tree and then processed using the lowest impact possible on the environment. Other companies add fillers or process their latex with chemicals –The Mary Cordaro Collection uses only pure, natural latex and the purity is confirmed by independent testing. There are two types of latex: the more resilient Talalay and the slightly denser-feeling Dunlop (which we also refer to as “Standard” latex). During the processing of Talalay latex, air is extracted from the liquid rubber, then the core is flash frozen to prevent settling, so the latex remains “airy” and not solid. The result is a mattress that feels ultra supportive yet resilient, and very long lasting. In the processing of standard Dunlop latex, there is no air extraction or flash freezing so the latex is allowed to settle, creating a denser, firmer feel. Your individual sleep preference will ultimately determine which feels better to you.

Pure Grow Wool™ is a superior all-natural product, which replaces synthetic foam and Dacron. This trademarked product is undyed wool from grazing sheep with no pesticides in the pasture, and no added chemicals in the feed. Many people who have allergies to wool discover that they are in fact allergic to the chemicals used in processing conventional wool and not the wool itself.

Pure Grow Wool batting also performs better than Dacron and synthetic foam in a mattress for several reasons: it wicks away moisture while you sleep to deliver more comfortable sleep, and insulates without overheating, creating a uniquely tranquil experience with a cocoon-like comfort. Additionally, wool naturally resists dust mites, moisture and mold, making it ideal for people with allergies and asthma. Finally, our mattresses meet federal flammability standards with wool only, avoiding any need for additional chemicals and fire barriers.

100% organic cotton fabric coverings give you a clean and healthy layer nearest to your face and skin. Both our organic cotton fabric as well as our organic cotton batting are free of dyes, bleach, pesticides and flame retardants. (As noted above, we meet our federal flammability requirements with wool only.)

Unlike conventionally grown cotton, organic cotton is grown without pesticides and herbicides, and processed without any dyes, treatments or chlorine bleach. Why is using organic so significant? Because the growing and processing of cotton contributes 25% of the pesticides used globally – more than is used in for growing food crops! These pesticides affect not only the environment, but those who work with the growing and processing of cotton materials. The textile-processing industry, using dyes, bleaches and other treatments to soften cotton contributes some of the highest levels of pollutants to our planet, and many of the chemicals remain in the fabric. And conventionally grow cotton batting may still retain pesticides. Because we spend 1/3 of our life sleeping on our beds, this is important to recognize for everyone, but especially for the impact on babies and children.

Solid wood foundations are made from sustainable wood sources.
Our wood foundation looks just like a box spring, but contains no plywood or particleboard, which are often made with toxic glues and formaldehyde. No metal inner springs are used which attract and radiate electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Made with untreated solid pine planking, they can be custom-crafted to any height (and as low as 2”) to accommodate low-profile platform bed frames. Special order foundations are available in hardwoods for the chemically sensitive.

*One of the most important expressions of the precautionary principle internationally is the Rio Declaration from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as Agenda 21.

The Mary Cordaro Collection™ Orana I, and Orana II mattresses are covered by a 20-year factory warranty. The first 10 years covers all components and fabric covers against defects in materials and manufacturing. Should failure occur in any of these components, including latex core, basic construction, or cover, your mattress and/or foundation will be repaired, or replaced at our discretion. The customer will be asked to cover the cost of shipping. The second 10 years are prorated based on the original cost of the mattress. The prorated rates are applied to the current retail price of the mattress, and not to the original retail price.

The Mary Cordaro Collection Orana Basic Mattress is covered by a 10-year factory warranty, which covers all components and fabric covers against defects in materials and manufacturing. Should failure occur in any of these components, including latex core, basic construction, or cover, your mattress and/or foundation will be repaired, or replaced at our discretion. The customer will be asked to cover the cost of shipping.

Conditions that invalidate this warranty
Our extensive commitment to superior quality and raw materials results in a mattress so luxuriously dense that its weight must be supported and distributed properly across the foundation. As a result the warranty may be invalidated should the mattress not be supported by a slat system platform bed frame, or with a box spring, foundation, or bunkie board, other than the foundation, or bunkie board carried by The Mary Cordaro Collection™.

The mattress has been folded or bent.
The foundations or box springs have not been properly supported.
There are signs of improper care such as stains, burns or compacting due to insufficient turning.
Platform frame slats that are less than 3” wide and/or spaced more than 2.5” apart.

Please note the H3Environmental Corporation cannot be responsible for claims associated with the handles, normal wear, fading or stains to the cover, issues of firmness, allergies or sensitivity to materials. Mattresses, box springs, foundations, or bunkie boards sold “as is” or as “floor models” are outside the coverage of this warranty as well.

The natural components of your mattress will respond to interactions with the human body. Gentle body impressions and subtle shifts in support characteristics are perfectly normal. They will in no way diminish the performance of your sleep system.

Your mattress and foundation are free from known defects, created under a pledge of providing superior construction and attention to detail.

Should you need to make a warranty claim, you will be asked to present your original invoice.

TOP OF MATTRESS
All top of bed items such as toppers, comforters, pillows and mattress protectors are covered by a 1-year warranty. This covers against defects in materials and manufacturing.

All our mattresses, and top-of-bed items are hand-made to order. Except for some selected items that we may have in stock, you should expect production times to take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks from the day we place your order with our factory. Shipments within the continental United States only at this time.

After your mattress or foundation order is place, we will contact you with a personalized shipping price for your approval. The prices outlined below are estimates only and subject to change.

SET: A set includes a mattress, wood foundation, or bunkie board. The same prices apply if only a mattress is ordered.

ADDITIONAL PIECE: An additional piece means an additional mattress, or an additional foundation.

TOP OF BED: Anything on top of the bed is not considered an additional piece (toppers, pillows, comforters, etc.)

Difficult Deliveries
There will be additional charges for upstairs deliveries, or any other services that may require special handling (for example over balcony, moving existing mattresses to other rooms or to another addresses, etc.) Contact H3Environmental for a quote.

Stairs-$25.00 per flight (8 stairs equal one flight)
Help with customer owned frame assembly- $35.00 per hour.
Charges will apply if you request an existing mattress moved from one room to another. The driver will notify you of the exact charge at the time, depending on the extent of the move. Tips do not apply toward this charge. A separate invoice will be sent to you for these charges.
If you have confirmed your delivery and are not home at the time of shipment, the shipping charges will still apply. There will be an additional shipping charge when the order is redelivered. A separate invoice will be sent to you for these charges.

Our Own Freight Deliveries
If our freight company is delivering the order, their services include inside set up of mattress or set, removal of packing materials, and old mattress set on the first floor. (All mattresses are taken to recycling).

Outside Freight Company
If an outside freight company delivers the order, they are only obligated to bring the mattress into the front door, but no further.

Mattresses with Accessories
If a mattress is ordered with accessories (toppers, pillows, comforters, etc.) the order will usually be delivered all at once, if specified at the time of order. However, if certain materials are on back order, the mattress may arrive before the other items are manufactured, and the additional items will be shipped separately though UPS ground. In this case there may be an additional charge.

We will make every effort to make sure you are satisfied with your purchases from H3Environmental. If the product you've ordered does not meet your expectations, please read the following return details:

Required Return Authorization
When returning an item, you must first get a return authorization from us. Please contact us at returns@h3environmental.com for a return authorization number and instructions on return shipping methods.

Restocking Fees:
Returns must meet certain requirements depending on the item, and may be subject to up to 25% restocking fee, imposed on us by some of our manufacturers. The purchaser pays the return shipping charges. Please see details below.

Damaged Items: Although our shippers are noted for their care and professionalism, occasionally a package may arrive damaged. If you notice a package is damaged, if possible please do not accept damaged items upon delivery. Before accepting the item, first open the package and examine the items carefully. If any damage to the items has occurred, refuse the delivery, and describe the damage in detail on the proper form provided by the shipper. Otherwise, merchandise claims must be reported to us within 30 days from shipping date. We will order a call tag so the item is shipped back to us at no cost to you. We will also pay the shipping on the replacement item.

Warranty Returns: For manufacturer defects, we will gladly replace the item and cover the shipping costs.

Mattresses, Foundations and Bedding
Unlike synthetic products made with conventional materials, your new mattress, foundation and bedding, including pillows, comforters, mattress pads and mattress toppers are hand-made to order especially for you, with the highest quality, 100% natural materials. In addition, federal law prohibits resale of used bedding. For these reasons, we cannot accept and refund returned mattress and bedding items, unless there are manufacturer defects.

Mattress Comfort Exchange: In some circumstances, we can offer a one-time mattress comfort-exchange for the same item. (Exception: We do not offer a comfort exchange on custom sized mattresses.) Our comfort exchange does not include requests due to sensitivities to materials or perceived odors. Please call 818.766.1787 for details.

Baby Collection
Crib Mattresses & Bedding
All baby mattresses and bedding (i.e. comforters, bumper pads, mattress pads, etc.) are non-refundable. See “Mattresses, Foundations and Bedding”, above.

Baby Cribs, Linens & Accessories
Returned cribs, linens and accessories must be in new, saleable condition –unused, unwashed and undamaged - in its original packaging. Linens that have been laundered cannot be returned. (Federal law prohibits resale of used bedding.) Returns will be accepted within 30 days of the shipping date subject to a 25% restocking charge for cribs, and 20% on linens and accessories, plus shipping.
